First Time Hearing THE REPLACEMENTS! “I Will Dare” has the CATCHIEST RIFFS!
FULL-ALBUM Reactions, Lessons & More 👉 www.patreon.com/LowEndUniversity
---------------------------------------------------
➡️ My first time hearing The Replacements was a real treat because of how quickly the catchy riffing grabbed me! I have a soft spot for upbeat shuffles, and the interplay between bassist Tommy Stinson and lead guitarist Bob Stinson was pure ear candy. This song ticks SO many boxes for me in terms of captivating songwriting. In this video, I discuss Tommy's bass line approach for each song section, the modal interchange used throughout the song's chord progressions, the effectiveness of the counterpoint between the bass and the lead guitar, the track's gorgeous production, and much more!

FULL-ALBUM Reactions, Lessons & More 👉 www.patreon.com/LowEndUniversity ➡️ I’m no stranger to Green Day, but hearing this unreleased track from 1994’s "Dookie" had me feeling like a teenager again! Jason Andrew Relva (abbreviated as "J.A.R.") is apparently a fan-favorite with its chordal bass intro, the song's delicate subject matter, and the early Green Day sound we've all come to love. I list...

Also if you like these older bass-driven pop-punk songs, check out "We Threw Gasoline on the Fire and Now We Have Stumps For Arms and No Eyebrows" by NOFX. I know, unwieldy title but the bass line is killer. Fat Mike has a ton of great basslines, but this one is something special imo

Wikipedia unsurprisingly isn't exactly right on this one. There were 2 demos recorded in 92 and I believe the second was in 93 that were both different from the official release. The first demo is a slower tempo acoustic version, but the second is pretty close the the final release. Both demos featured a lot more backup vocals from Mike, but the first demo actually finishes the last line of the song, "All I wanna do is play" whereas every other version cuts off before finishing "All I wanna do is..."

I bought The Who's British version debut album in 1966. I was hooked. I saw them perform on their first American tour at the Fillmore West in 1968. I was totally blown away. I had never heard a sound like that before. Their rebellious attitude at the time reflected how I felt as a 20 year old. I had the honor of meeting them and having a great talk with Pete Townshend and watching a British monster movie with Roger. They've been my #1 band ever since. RIP Kieth and John. I'm very happy that you've discovered them. Peace........Out....... PS: at the Fillmore show Pete played through two VOX Super Beatles. I had my parents buy be one and I still have it to this very day.

They recorded for Factory Records. For a music history lesson, take a deep five into all that they were involved in. New Order was one of the biggest bands worldwide in the 80s. A large arena/stadium dance oriented rock band that were hugely popular in the clubs. Hence, they tended to have their singles remixed with added length.

Love the Placemats! Saw them a couple of times in the 80s. Their early shows were legendary -- but not necessarily for their musicianship ; ) They cleaned it up a bit later. It's funny, I've never really thought much about the bass with them-- mostly Paul's brilliant lyrics and Bob's guitar. But Tommy did hold it together, and he was just a kid. After their next album (Tim), they had to kick Tommy's older brother Bob (RIP) out of the band due to his drinking. Very sad. They replaced him with Slim Dunlap (RIP also). Slim was good - but the band changed a lot. Anyway, Hootenanny and Let it Be are some of my all-time fave albums, so thanks for reviewing.

This is so bizarre that this came up. I go through cycles of Replacements records every few years and I'm in one now, and also recently went down a rabbit hole of early Goo Goo Dolls records (mainly Jed and Hold Me Up). Jed is a legitimately fantastic album and really sounds like a Replacements record - apparently Goo Goo Dolls were criticized in the late 80s for being a rip-off of early Replacements. It's an interesting listen to run through Sorry Ma and Hootenanny by Replacements and then Jed and Hold Me Up by Goo Goo Dolls. All of those records hold up though; Hold Me Up reminds me of Samiam, and came out around the same time as Samiam's first record. You can hear the early influence they both probably had on Nirvana too. It's a fun rabbit hole. Good vid!

Bob Mould is Bob Mould, the greatest songwriter that was at the forefront in pioneering the sound of hardcore punk , grunge, melodic punk in the 80s to currently . Bob Mould is a legend. If You're Ready(Mr. Michell), maybe it's time for some serious Hardcore bass mastery. 7 Seconds, and the bass stylings of Steve Youth, will knock you out! start with, "This Is Temporary", "Here We Go Again Kids", "True Roots Show"(with a Horn), "Y.P.H." and the live version of, "Satyagraha" from Scream Real Loud. A rolling great bass line. I strongly recommend checking out this band in all its's variations, 7 Seconds are Hardcore Plus! Oh, and for a Happy bonus(and from their weird period), try "Happy Rain", a super lead bass song.
